If you are a business using these sites and list an offer what is the cost to you the business owner.

I’m not sure what you mean. Please rephrase your question.

If you list an offer on a daily deal site what percentage of the deal does the site take.

Reply

Sheldon Nesdale October 20, 2010 at 11:55 pm

It varies enormously. The range is between 15% to 50%.

Reply

pete October 21, 2010 at 12:01 am

Why such a large swing in charges.

Reply

Sheldon Nesdale October 21, 2010 at 12:05 am

I don’t know Pete. You will have to contact each Daily Deal site directly to find out the specifics.

Reply

Dave October 23, 2010 at 11:26 am

It varies because some of them have larger profiles and larger databases of members. And for example if you go with Cudo (http://cudo.com.au) they also have tv ads so your business gets TV ads so i would say they take a larger cut. Just depends on the exposure that your business will get out of it.

That makes sense. Thanks Dave!

Thank you! I was using your NZ site, and missed it when I first moved to Oz, the only other one I’ve found for Australia was just awful. Then they revamped it and it is more awful!

Also, the 1SaleaDay site is currently down for intellectual property reasons, so you might want to move that to the ‘other’ sites for now.

what is the point of this site? if i want a deal ill just get the deal company who actually sells the deal to tell me about it by signing up and saving the hassle of coming to a place where I cant buy anything such as this. How do you even make money? This site is crap

Reply

Nicola April 8, 2011 at 5:07 am

Not that your comment dignifies an answer, but where do you find out about the deal companies in the first place without sites like this? To find the deal company you have to hope you see them advertised or a friend tells you, or you can find a site that has it’s ear to the ground and can tell you about all the different sites available as soon as they come to light. Also, in case you missed the memo about The Internet, some people just like to share information, no financial compensation required. Shocking, I know.

Hi Sheldon

Great effort ….good website for all daily deals bargain hunters.

we launched daily deal aggregator http://99deals.com.au in November 2010 and constantly updating with new features and adding new websites & cities.
We currently follow 15 deals sites and 19 cities. Deals can be viewed on the main page and if subscribed the detailed deals page with list view and map view ( first of its kind in Australia) are displayed. Kindly add http://99deals.com.au list and please review the website and give us the feedback. We will try our best to improve based on your feedback.

Hi Sheldon

Thanks very much for adding the site. The site initially ha d mandatory subscription to see the deals but changed so that the deals could be visible on the main page and the thumbnails are small. But if subscribed the thumbnails are bigger and better and also has map view with multiple POIs.

I might bring everything to the home page. Please login and give me your feed back. Much appreciated.

sweet site, such a good source of info on all the deals sites. I can’t believe there are so many out there now, craziness.
I have even seen deals doing the rounds from one site to another. funniest thing was when they end up on catch of the day they are more expensive than the other sites and they sell heaps more because they have the audience.
i reckon heaps will go out of business as unless you have $$ and relationships already they take a while to get the deals unless your so big that deals come to you.
Sheldon, as your a ‘deals guy’ what do you think will happen in then near future for deals site?

Reply

Sheldon Nesdale June 8, 2011 at 7:50 am

Hi Ed, thanks for your feedback, good to hear.

As for the future, I think we will see 3 things happening:

  1. New sites will continue to appear every week because there is virtually no barrier to entry
  2. Some of the more popular sites will continue to be gobbled up by giant newspaper companies
  3. Some of one-man band sites will close up shop when they realise how much work this type of business really is

laurence June 10, 2011 at 1:01 pm

I was considering advertising a product on one of the daily deal sites. Does anyone know the different rates of commission that the top five daily deal sites charge?

Reply

Sheldon Nesdale June 10, 2011 at 9:58 pm

Hi Laurence, You will need to be able to offer at least 50% discount off normal retail price to the customer, and you can expect the site to take 10-25% commission off what is remaining.

Reply

High percentage deal sites June 21, 2011 at 2:58 pm

Hi Sheldon, I think you’ll find the big names are even higher than that. Star deals is 50%. Scoopon is 40%. Spreets is 15% but has a clause regarding unclaimed vouchers, with a few calculations, the minimum they take is 30%.

Steven Roennfeldt June 21, 2011 at 2:52 pm

For the first week or two, we will be having deals spanning 2 days instead of 1 day. But… we should be 1 deal every day within about 2 weeks I expect. We also have side deals for every City.

There are 23 cities including regional areas. Would it be possible to move us over to the up and going daily deal category?

Thanks heaps,

Hi Helen, thanks for the info but your pop-up window demanding an email address is in violation of the criteria for getting listed on this site. Let me know if/when you remove it. Here’s why you should remove your pop-up window.

Reply

Helen September 22, 2011 at 11:15 pm

Hi Sheldon,

Thanks for the feedback. I am working on having it removed. In the meantime, it is easy to bypass this popup page by select the city you want to view, then continue. The next bit where it asks for your email address. there is also a skip button. Anyone can skip and go straight to the deals without having to put in their email address.

To purchase a deal, like most other sites, people will still have to signup.

Thanks,
Helen

Hi Jan!
Great to see more competition :)

Only thing is…”make sure to visit us on our official launch date!”
Yet your site doesn’t state what the official launch date is…how are people supposed to know?

I just found: http://www.discounton.com.au This has to be the best deals site as there is no need to pay for your offer until point of sale, Also Merchants get to post their deals for free and sell for free unlike the other sites that take up to 50% and hold the merchants money for months. There are some great deals for Melbourne as I understand Melbourne has launched first and all the other cities are being added.. This is more like a search engine for deals

Reply

Sheldon Nesdale March 10, 2012 at 10:43 am

Thanks Ben, I’ll take a look!

If you work there or they are a client of yours, that’s ok, you don’t have to pretend to “just found it” :)

I recently spoke with a company in Australia that I found online that for a small fee allows you to make your own daily deal on their website and they advertise it to their database….you get the benefit of the exposure without having to give a big commission to a regular daily deal company….it sounds good, but for the life of me I cannot find them again…any knowledge of who they might be would be appreciated.

Reply

Steven March 24, 2012 at 7:52 pm

Sounds like Deals Lifestyle.

Only 15% commission and deals to suit the business not to suit the website :)

Hi Tim, great to hear from you, thanks for reaching out.

As per the criteria, your website demands an email address before seeing anything, so I won’t be adding your site to the list at this time.
